The 2026–2027 season combines vocal music and organ concerts in celebration of All Saints’ Day, Christmas, Holy Week and Easter
Barcelona, October 2026 – The Basilica of Santa Maria del Mar presents its 2026–2027 musical season, centred on young and local talent, the recovery of musical heritage, and the presence of sacred music throughout the liturgical year.
The Santa Maria del Mar Music Chapel, conducted by Joan Seguí, will play a central role, both in liturgical celebrations and concerts. The season will open on 2 November with Komm, süßer Tod, a programme of German music from the 17th and 18th centuries exploring themes of death and the transience of life, featuring the participation of a community choir.
For Christmas, Santa Maria del Mar will once again revive the Cant de la Sibil·la, performed by Amalia Cuena and the Music Chapel on 24 December. The celebration will also include music by Bernat Vivancos, motets and Christmas carols accompanying the Midnight Mass.
The L’Orgue del Mar cycle will return for its fourth edition with four concerts, held on Fridays from 15 January to 5 February 2027. The programme will bring together young and established organists such as Mar Vaqué, Àngel Montero, Pol Álvarez Viciana and Saskia Roures, with repertoires spanning Iberian and European music from the Renaissance to contemporary creation.
During Holy Week, the concert on 24 March will feature Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, in dialogue with works by Monteverdi and Vivaldi, as well as mystical texts by Verdaguer. The concert will feature Mireia Tarragó and Jana Corominas, accompanied by an instrumental ensemble. The Chapel will also take part in the main celebrations of the Paschal Triduum, with the revival of works by former chapel masters of the Basilica.
The season will conclude on 22 April with Jubilet tota civitas, an Easter concert featuring soprano Marta Esteban, Jeremy Nastasi on theorbo, and Joan Seguí on organ and harpsichord.
With this programme, Santa Maria del Mar strengthens the role of its Music Chapel as an ongoing sacred music project, connecting the basilica’s own heritage with new creation and the promotion of a new generation of performers.
