Commentary:
Santa Maria del Mar celebrates Christmas with one of the most deeply rooted traditions of Catalan musical heritage: the Song of the Sibyl. Since Xavier Torra revived its performance at Santa Maria del Mar in 1984, it has been performed continuously and has spread throughout Catalonia. The performance of the Sibyl, accompanied by bagpipes and drum, precedes the celebration of Midnight Mass.
