Location: Basílica de Santa Maria del Mar
Santa Maria del Mar is a unique site with an exceptional heritage, both architecturally and musically. The organ of Santa Maria del Mar has a long history: it was built around 1740 for the Trinitarian Convent of Vic. Following its dismantling near the time of the Spanish Civil War and subsequent period of neglect, it was rediscovered and restored by organ builder Gerhard Grenzing, and installed in the Basilica, which had been left without its great organ due to the fire. Beyond this current instrument, several other organs are known to have occupied a space in Santa Maria del Mar, and some never even reached installation. Each chapter of this history will guide the concert, accompanied by organ music performed by the Basilica’s titular organist, Joan Seguí.
