In celebration of the centenary of Montserrat Torrent.
Fridays at 8:15 p.m., from 23 January to 13 February 2026.
Santa Maria del Mar is a unique place with an exceptional heritage, both architecturally and musically.
The organ of Santa Maria del Mar has a long history: it was built around 1740 for the Convent of the Trinitarians in Vic. After being dismantled around the time of the Spanish Civil War and falling into oblivion, it was rediscovered and restored by the organ builder Gerhard Grenzing and installed in the Basilica, which had been left without its great organ following the fire. In addition to the present instrument, several other organs are known to have occupied spaces within Santa Maria del Mar, and some were even planned but never installed.
This year the series features internationally renowned organists, both emerging and established. The cycle also joins the celebrations of the centenary of Montserrat Torrent, a leading figure of the organ in Europe and the musician who inaugurated the instrument of Santa Maria del Mar.
For each concert, Montserrat Torrent has selected a tiento from the Facultad Orgánica by Francisco Correa de Arauxo, a publication that celebrates its 400th anniversary this year.
Approximate duration of the concerts: 55 minutes.
Tickets are available at the Basilica during visiting hours and before the concert by clicking here.
