Hundreds of families gathered this Tuesday at the Mass for the Deceased organized by the Mémora Group at the Basilica of Santa Maria del Mar in Barcelona, in a celebration that offers a space for prayer, consolation, and remembrance for those who have lost a loved one in recent months.
The Mass was presided over by the Archbishop of Barcelona, Cardinal Joan Josep Omella, who conveyed a message of hope to those present with the reminder that “death does not have the last word.” During the homily, Cardinal Omella invited the faithful to “look upwards to find hope” and sought to accompany the families in their grief by recalling his own personal prayer for his deceased mother, as a sign of communion in suffering.
